Sanziene....

As in any other country, our people has ancient stories about fairies, supernatural creatures of all kind, dragons and so on...
And like in many other traditions, a part of the local legends was transfferred once Christianism came. But that would make another story. Today I only want to point out our special holyday, the Sanziene night, and if you've paid close attention to Lord of The Rings, there is a passage when Gandalf or Sauron say something about the Uruk-hai crossing the river Isen on mid- Sanziene night...that's all I remember..but I guess that others have this holyday also...
The idea is that here, in Romania, on Sanziene night, it is believed that some beautiful girls, each called Sanziana, will dance around in a circle, on the ground, or in the air. They are some kind of fairies, under the form of beautiful young girls, and they are dancing in hidden places, in forest clearings untouched by man. If, by any chance, someone sees them in their dance, that person goes mad or mute. But they are not bad spirits, but good, and bring wealthy crops, and it is said that on the Sanziene night all plants that have a healing power grow stronger.
It is also believed that if they are not honoured as they should be, or if these do something wrong, then they get mad on the people and punish them, as they love justice above all.
There's so much depth to this legend that it would take me alot to explain all the traditions and customs Romanians have on this day, it is important only to know that this is a significant holyday, coming from ancient times, from our geto-dacic ancestors,  before Christianism came here, but people here managed to combine it to the new religion and not loose its purpose, that of determining men and wemen to do good.
sanziene

It is especially because people are forbidden to meet the Sanziene, that there is a huge attraction to go into the forest on that special night, and of course I am no exception. There's something magical and superstitious and frightening about this night, so M and I went into the local forest on Monday night, just about after midnight, but I have to confess we were afraid to enter the clearing, but not because of the Sanziene, but because of the snakes or whatever other animals and insects would be crawling in that tall grass. And we were right not to do so, because as we were standing right at the entrance, some dogs started running, and I would be lying to say I didn't get scared.....:D....but only a little bit!
Anyway, just the other day, as I was going home on my bike on the belt-road of Timisoara, I sensed the smell of the Sanziene flowers...and promised myself to pick some the next day...yesterday I almost forgot, but then I saw a shepard at the side of the road with some flowers in his hand...and went some more up to the place I knew they were growing...and picked some...
and here they are on my motor...
 ..nice, huh?
and I made this out of them...
...and put it at the entrance in our home, as it is said that a crown of sanziene will protect the home from evil, and bring prosperity.
I also put some, with roots, in water, on my windowsill, together with my other flowers, but when I went too bed I had to exile them outside, as their smell was to powerful.

Well, that would be about it, all my adventures regarding the Sanziene holyday. I hope everyone had as much fun as we did!
In the end, I leave you to a song that I love so much! this is definitely the best version on youtube! Enjoy!

Some just have the gift...

Looking out for Mother nature photos online I was once again bewitched by all the great art out there. these are the moments I thank god I have a computer....and Internet connection, which make it possible for me to see art that otherwise would not be available to my eyes. I have to say I find a strange pleasure in watching all kind of art, but when it comes to contemporary, I rather have a dull taste, if I could say so. Abstract art is not really for me, I won't pretend I understand it, but that doesn't mean I haven't found some paintings or sculptures very intrigueing, fascinating and beautiful. I did, but that doesn't happen to me alot.
Another part of the "new" art is the one "enhanced " by computer, and not only that. The fascinating thing about modern art is that you cannot really grasp its origin, just its purpose; and that one is joy to the eye of the viewer. That is enough for me, and that is why I love to change my desktop everyday with beautiful new pictures that give me joy and inspiration.
Below are some of these pictures that fill my heart with a warm feeling, and give me inspiration:
Jasmin Aldin

.... what can I say? some people just have the gift...of imagination, and especially of transffering into reality that which they can imagine....priceless!

this one's a painting!
All photos above are from google images, just type "mother nature photos" and they pop-up! I don't own any of the rights, but I do hope no one will cry beacuse I posted them here, since I won't make any profit out of them, just wanted to praise the talent that created them!

Irish inspiration...

Speaking of leprechauns in my last post inspired me, and I went looking for some movies with this kind of caracters, and so I stumbled upon this movie:
which enchanted me pure and simply through its lanscapes! The beautiful green of Irish grass! Have I mentioned that Ireland would be the only country I would move to, if I was ever to leave my darling Romania?
The story is such a preety one...an American from New York comes to Ireland on holyday, in fact he comes here to check-up  the cottages, and see if a holyday resort would have any success there, ment for stressed Americans...
Of course he finds out that the cottage he lives in has its own two leprechauns, Seamus and his wife Mary, as well as their no good son- Mickey. I say no good son, but in reality, as leprechauns are mischievious, naughty and always up to no good, and it looks like that is a good thing for leprechauns to do...
It also looks like from this story that leprechauns are in an eternal quarell with fairies, and they even start a war when Mickey "kidnapps " the fairie princess, Jessica, the daughter of the fairie king. In fact, the two fall deeply in love (ahhhhhhh!) and run away together, but they are forced to come back when they realize that they are the cause of the war.
The symbols in this movie are very interesting; Mother Nature is a tree that, once the war starts and the fairies don't look after the plants, starts to wither, suffers because of the hatred and slowly starts to die. Once the feud begins, fairies and leprechauns start dying when they fight, and vanish, and the Grand Banshee, that is the supreme authority on earth among them, takes them. This Grand Banshee is an owl-woman, and is played by none other then the wonderful Woopi Goldberg!
I was also soooo pleasantly surprised to recognize the river dance I so love from  the Lord of the Dance! Whenever the leprechauns had a party...they would dance that dance which I so love! There are these girls with red hair and green dresses that move their feet as if they are flying feries!
Absolutely fabulous!
But back to our story, in the meantime our american, Jack, falls inlove with a beautiful local girl, Caitlin, and after a few bumpy adventures, she starts loving him back. they both help Mickey and Jessica end the war of the leprechauns vs fairies, and help restore Mother nature to hel blissful status of...green!

If you're in the mood for romantic, wonderfully childish, extremly amusing and wonderful green landscapes, this is a movie for a quiet afternoon with children...or just yourself! I for one, loved it, while I was yesterday alone with my cats...who were doing something like this:
...tearing the box and filling my room with small-small pieces of paper...Jackieeeeeee!!!

On another note, please allow me to brag about my new books:
that I just received today.
Quietude by Eckhart Tolle- in French!
Teach yourself to meditate-Eric Harrison- English version
Divinely ispired stories(??)- Swami Shivananda- Romanian version

I can't wait to read them all!

on the same page, I found out about this book:
...which I totally bookmarked in my "to have" folder!

All this being said, I whish everyone a wonderful week!

...which were gone as soon as I entered my office; and thanks to my colleagues Andrea and Roxy for the appreciation, and of course, for posing for me!

we're in the exams period...

...or at least M is, so I have to make reports, help him choose what to learn, check him daily if he's learning (!!) and not riding his bike or drinking coffee with friends...all in all, I am very busy when at home, and when at work, I don't know what happened, but I do really have  ALOT of work! Not the usual lot, but much more than that....
Anyway, have you missed these guys?:
Jackie mesmerized by a fly...

our boss of all days....
our picture-perfect model....
We have also been on an adventure yesterday, M and I....we went to Recas, to Andrea's (my work colleague ) bf's home to see a 3 days old calf!!!!
the only picture I could snap was this:
It was preety dark in the stable, and we didn't want to disturb the mother very much...but if you watch closely you can see 2 pairs of small legs...:D. It's a girl and she's a beauty! Her mother was so adorable, she let me rub her forehead, she let me touch her beautiful baby without showing signs of nervousness, but that only after I made her aquaintance, to show her I have come with good, pozitive thaughts, just to admire them both!

That was such a thrilling experience! It is the first time ever I am touching a working horse; I mean Stela is a horse used to pull a carriage, not be petted by children; and I went directly to her, streched my hand so that she could smell me, and touched her soft skin on her nose! I trully and completely wouldn't have done that not even 6 months ago! I must say my riding lessons have helped me alot when dealing with my horse fear, with my confidence overall and with me taking my pozitive energy from these wonderful and noble creatures!

In this respect, I have to add I terribly and deeply miss all the horses at Herneacova, which I havent's seen in a few weeks...I might take a quick spin on this weekend...

And last, here's a wonderful scene I would love to wake up to every morning....
don't remember the source!
Have a great sunny week! The Sun has finally come to Romania also!

back on track...

Time flies quickly by us...the High Voltage biker fest came and went, we barely escaped from Germany before the flood , but finally we got home...wet, tired but happy. The party was a blast, during the day we got to visit a small part of Nurenberg, but an iconic one: the Hall 600- where the Nuremberg Trials took place. I still have the tickets to proove it!

There's also an interesting little museum, with images, recordings, history in general of the Nazi period, and especially the Nuremberg Trials.
As for the rest of our visit there, We had a great time talking to our friends, and they promised to visit right back in August! We can't wait!
And now, for the most recent part of events in my life, my little niece Flavia had an accident while playing, but thank God, she is ok. I have to say that I am sorry and was trully frightened because of this, but as we found out that she is ok, I was glad that my sister, little Flavia, my older niece Teodora and my brother in law were coming to visit.
This way, they were all back in our small apartment on Sunday morning, Tunde helped us prepare lunch and she was trully efficient, otherwise I would have transformed it into dinner....:D.
After lunch we decided to go see some horses....and since Herneacova would close at 6 pm, we decided to try our luck at the manege here in Timisoara...and we got lucky, as we got to see Lizette, remember her- the first horse I ever rode??
...the girl riding her was so nice and let us watch her for a few...and even showed Liz off..sshe learned how to walk backwards!!! talk about surprise there!!!
the atmosphere there was so relaxed on that sunny afternoon...I was bewitched! the light was also great!
Of course my sister and nieces didn't get my enthusiasm for Liz walking back...but I was extatic!

then we got out, so as to let the nice girl do her exercises, and there was another surprise waiting for us:
I know this is not a very flattering photo of this mare, but in reality she is trully beautiful! and the guy was so nice as to explain to us all about her...and about riding in Timisoara as it happens....
Of course we all gathered around the poor girl, my girls were a bit shy at the beginning, but after they saw me scratch dear Lara, and her closing her eyes in delight, they got braver....
...and braver...
...and braver...

...and the last and bravest of all....
Looove this photo!
After such a feast we just couldn't stop and go home, and M came with the ideea of going to the...
...and I have to say I was so happy we went...and my girls too...

....and I think the guys were too...
....and as I was the photographer..I am in none of the pictures...
...and that's ok...since I got to see so many beautiful sites...

...that almost made me forget we were in a zoo, and not in a simple park, overcrowded with animals!
I know for shure the girls had a blast, as they couldn't stop talking about what they saw when we got home, but I am sure the "adults" had a preety good time too... I for one... am trully confused about who was more enthusiastic about the goats....the girls:
.... or I....
...and I have a ton of photos to proove it...but just look at this little guy, right???my heart melted....
the girls were trully excited about the bears instead...

but I'll stick to my goats and sheep.....

...and my kind of strange birds....

...and not so strange...but really beautiful...

I have so many wonderful photos to share that I'll just have to make a part II to this thing...so this is it for today....
Bisous! and have a great week!!
